Hello!Have been ignoring this blog for a bit *sad* ... but ... I'm back now! Even though I've not actually posted anything, I have done a fair share of crafting. Not too much, but a fair bit nonetheless. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've started - and finished! - a few quilts. One of them is a granny square quilt. I've always loved looking at granny square quilts on the internet, so was really quite excited to try to make one of my own. It turned out pretty easy actually, the hardest part was choosing the fabric. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLHaFKeRgJZvJOvMWWMGSmBT3sgBtoOA2OumEQx2STj4G_DBsezpQEuEP-OICVPlHwTq4HmphimKv-rigoZ72bGpFKx11kNZ1VJ3ySvZi2DTuVwFcDKT4S7tsil3GpvYqGiZTvIKakO5Ur/s1600/GrannySqfabric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLHaFKeRgJZvJOvMWWMGSmBT3sgBtoOA2OumEQx2STj4G_DBsezpQEuEP-OICVPlHwTq4HmphimKv-rigoZ72bGpFKx11kNZ1VJ3ySvZi2DTuVwFcDKT4S7tsil3GpvYqGiZTvIKakO5Ur/s1600/GrannySqfabric.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I used 3 different prints for each block.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil9IWDqdRHWBcMlhPQvr-cqdlFm0YonBXJyTZxPi9skE8RN6LcvuXIYXqaaWeTbhaGlaumiSMVx7zH0ViiHO1gb2Z5znEXgOLqXhUnncz5BVmw-cz2CPMEG71PlwSS53BEMdPGvR1Y3KTB/s1600/GrannySqblocklayout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil9IWDqdRHWBcMlhPQvr-cqdlFm0YonBXJyTZxPi9skE8RN6LcvuXIYXqaaWeTbhaGlaumiSMVx7zH0ViiHO1gb2Z5znEXgOLqXhUnncz5BVmw-cz2CPMEG71PlwSS53BEMdPGvR1Y3KTB/s1600/GrannySqblocklayout.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Also managed another little patchwork quilt. Inspired by some dinosaur prints I had in my stash. Lots of blues, with some orange thrown in for contrast. Nice!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieC7JcCi76hLHAvvzsnbx6IQDT5mAq_PzVFtBkWOMEXjMoLcfZIhAFgnlVByhQGP8jqBfbgP-3_kR3vR6jWsKt7QCDiWPSvu8cAAQue9IhAoPSOexifOie0I0hW-Xuys7V5VDwwZlgOFVJ/s1600/Dinopatchworkfabric.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieC7JcCi76hLHAvvzsnbx6IQDT5mAq_PzVFtBkWOMEXjMoLcfZIhAFgnlVByhQGP8jqBfbgP-3_kR3vR6jWsKt7QCDiWPSvu8cAAQue9IhAoPSOexifOie0I0hW-Xuys7V5VDwwZlgOFVJ/s1600/Dinopatchworkfabric.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love patchwork quilts! Do you?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
I want something that will come together fairly easily, like a 9-patch perhaps? Or a disappearing 9-patch even. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This was the first choice of 9 fabrics.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn4mpcP18MHcSnf9sUxcJFClqdCh90nEOr21VCDDDw3oF6kpqxbT32-pShaHOm0pAwWW511TW15aFCmvpHgrizYRwXKsuN2MW3SpyverLJlVd5niay2d0Q_YXjyn80sGKFinNHWTPhGAB4/s1600/pagoda+pull2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn4mpcP18MHcSnf9sUxcJFClqdCh90nEOr21VCDDDw3oF6kpqxbT32-pShaHOm0pAwWW511TW15aFCmvpHgrizYRwXKsuN2MW3SpyverLJlVd5niay2d0Q_YXjyn80sGKFinNHWTPhGAB4/s1600/pagoda+pull2.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Most of the fats came from the same fabric line - Pagoda Lullaby - so they are very matchy matchy. I thought the colours might all blend together too much, so I added a colour that was totally different - the teal ones in the photo above. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But I was still not too pleased with the combo, so swapped one teal fabric for a brighter purple:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF4cuZBz09JUkM9OS7iuqYBrB8yZ1s0Sw6dqyK93VuFm1AoHod9UnquVPECRoRKM7-Fllq3GYpogG74PfiLB6wsCinG3BvFXJ2lU2Yp_Y2D6tN5_Ts-x2A6ev1jve6lTOSCyrBslDdnvfU/s1600/pagoda+pull1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjF4cuZBz09JUkM9OS7iuqYBrB8yZ1s0Sw6dqyK93VuFm1AoHod9UnquVPECRoRKM7-Fllq3GYpogG74PfiLB6wsCinG3BvFXJ2lU2Yp_Y2D6tN5_Ts-x2A6ev1jve6lTOSCyrBslDdnvfU/s1600/pagoda+pull1.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At the last minute I changed my mind, and swapped one teal for a stronger hue of blue/green. And this is the final 9:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I was a-browsing in a bucket of fabric during my lunch hour with no prior intentions whatsoever of purchasing any, but when I saw this print I just could NOT resist.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigjur7ApKrdaENZpPwlpTvEeVni3CSkIYFy7lNw8_dJjYhxz5Hltb5Lr6VponN2m347S0ITaAwCRh2rHeSfjRmFpZz8bswZ-q3RcXxWe7D7GKLkuKZ3wnT6h8kU51jyACu6tFC_OJHb2Go/s1600/meow+fabric+close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigjur7ApKrdaENZpPwlpTvEeVni3CSkIYFy7lNw8_dJjYhxz5Hltb5Lr6VponN2m347S0ITaAwCRh2rHeSfjRmFpZz8bswZ-q3RcXxWe7D7GKLkuKZ3wnT6h8kU51jyACu6tFC_OJHb2Go/s1600/meow+fabric+close.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Little meows on midnight blue linen. Those little paw prints just make me want to smile :-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1KemWhLagGa4Ju1UL3go0idT0yOXP5F8uKDFIhy7Ls8D8BCibVozgxgHqMJbI4GuEC9czVYvY3pxwf5D9WvppF5bWRk5BBENgHFLbabMAx3YLdc2EUPYmiMvDC9jZQhKiw91nMA1ee9_f/s1600/meow+fabric+wide.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1KemWhLagGa4Ju1UL3go0idT0yOXP5F8uKDFIhy7Ls8D8BCibVozgxgHqMJbI4GuEC9czVYvY3pxwf5D9WvppF5bWRk5BBENgHFLbabMAx3YLdc2EUPYmiMvDC9jZQhKiw91nMA1ee9_f/s1600/meow+fabric+wide.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Some of them have really grumpy faces, but if you've ever had a cat you will know what an Attitude they can have. Scowllll...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZnDfPQkVk0ToEsBdO9Zha-VCbvEGxVbiy0SaA4_PEXvEnrhUf0BhMDIkPuFSSgzmTuBFKn6nSyDjNwrgntRxCeeCokzhfLxCdYR_k8oQzhD4_sg-VDzeFbNoYpZdCUQLWY3lIdyXCsuwC/s1600/meow+fabric+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZnDfPQkVk0ToEsBdO9Zha-VCbvEGxVbiy0SaA4_PEXvEnrhUf0BhMDIkPuFSSgzmTuBFKn6nSyDjNwrgntRxCeeCokzhfLxCdYR_k8oQzhD4_sg-VDzeFbNoYpZdCUQLWY3lIdyXCsuwC/s1600/meow+fabric+3.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was thinking what a great tote it would make (and I do need a new tote for my work things), but there's only a quarter of a metre of it so there's not enough. Never mind, I'm already planning a nice new phone pouch, and perhaps a couple of fabric boxes from this print. I paid RM10 for this, what a bargain, no?<br />
<br />
Oh, and here's a shot of the fabric meows with a real one, ehehee!<br />
<br />

<span id="yui_3_16_0_1_1401203566739_3869" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Continuing from yesterday’s post, the third thing I do when I’m out of ideas but still want to sew is – I make little projects. Purses, fabric boxes, bookmarks. This is a sure fire way to get your creative juices flowing. Note it has to be a SMALL project. Attempting to undertake anything big or unfamiliar is more likely to only kill your mojo (plus if you're like me you'll also be a hot swearing mess by the end of it). Is there a small project which you’ve done so many times that you can do it with your eyes closed? For me, I can do little pouches pretty decently. Not quite with my eyes closed though, ehee. So I start to make one, but the problem (if you can call it a problem) with these things is that once you make one, you can’t stop! Yes, so I make one, then 2 , then 3 and then if I'm still pumped, I switch gears and make multiples of something else.</span></div>

<span id="yui_3_16_0_1_1401203566739_3369" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Firstly, I can play with fabric. This involves pulling stash out of the shelves, scraps from bins and pre-cuts from secret hiding places (No, I have no idea either why I hide them. Absolutely none). I pet them, admire them, fold them and colour code them. Sometimes I trim the odd pieces and group them into project sized categories (strips, 2.5” & 4” squares, scrap bits for instance). While doing this, an idea or two for the next project usually comes along. And at the end of the process I will have tidy, organized shelves ready to be messed up again. Plus pre-cut fabric at the ready for the next patchwork project :-)</span><br />

Normally I will do this when my scrap bin is on the verge of overflowing. I take random scraps of all shapes, sizes, prints and colours and piece them together. <span id="yui_3_16_0_1_1401203566739_3439" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I find piecing scraps a very therapeutic exercise. I actually enjoy it very much. Anything goes, really. You don’t even have to think what sizes your blocks should be. Just piece. At some point you will have a few small blocks to piece into bigger blocks and so on and so forth. Right now I’m working to making a big scrap quilt. It’s still a long way off, but I’ll get there eventually. Here’s an example of one big block made out of many little odd shaped blocks. I taped a pen next to it so you can have an idea of the size...</span><br />

<span id="yui_3_16_0_1_1401203566739_2942" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I did, however, attempted to a little modification on my Fairy Tale Friends Quilt. Remember I had some reservations about the white spaces? Coincidently I also had a suggestion from Omong Mak Long (<i>Hello Mak Long! Thanks for visiting all the way from Dallas! And thanks for your comment [yours too MamaD!] – I will definitely keep that in mind the next time I mess up a quilt top</i>). Anyway, what I did for this quilt was just make a bunch of little yoyos which I then sewed into the middle of the white blocks. It’s not much, but any little bit helps. </span></div>

<span id="yui_3_16_0_1_1401203566739_2950" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">May has been a terrible blogging month for me. I haven’t even been checking my email let alone post anything. Part of the reason I think is that I haven’t been very good at taking photos of my projects, and you know I loathe to post without pictures. So, I’m thinking I might do a post every day until the end of the month, just to challenge myself a little. Hihihi. Let’s see how I do. Of course this may mean a lot of crappy phone photos, but most of my photos are crappy to begin with anyway, so what the heck.</span></div>

It's madness how time just flies by - especially the older you get ... eek! Yes, so on that rather sombre note, on we go with all things fabric, haha!<br />
<br />
Let's see. My sewing seems to have been done in fits and bursts lately. I'll be sewing for a couple of days, then a week will go by without the machine even being on. And then, there'll be another couple of days of me sewing like a demented woman. <br />
<br />
I have actually finished my solids quilt top, so that's a big yippee-doo! to me :-)<br />
<br />
Here's a couple of rather awful photos, sorry! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLWbzdvBnsGlcvFxcyWDMWqyP11La6zuGSfAWyXwk8paY1YO9IbF6xQk_CPquMWTU1mw9F2Ld0ux_Ag24uONXUgLb1F996XPM3j64N0RJgvtnbyRbYdyF56dqdJQ4vzr6G3-WoChpaStmX/s1600/solids+top1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLWbzdvBnsGlcvFxcyWDMWqyP11La6zuGSfAWyXwk8paY1YO9IbF6xQk_CPquMWTU1mw9F2Ld0ux_Ag24uONXUgLb1F996XPM3j64N0RJgvtnbyRbYdyF56dqdJQ4vzr6G3-WoChpaStmX/s1600/solids+top1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH7UGUVT_6kju8G_q4geWqLk870_s4CU4m66qi1gr1t9koA7uP72ISjCh7-VRcMJd5iHSc9bFsJsixc1V947uo1JWwGG1nnd8Rj1UYIa7NpN8x2dvIjDTGjyQAHQM56NfO1yfHpSV720Ba/s1600/solids+top+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjH7UGUVT_6kju8G_q4geWqLk870_s4CU4m66qi1gr1t9koA7uP72ISjCh7-VRcMJd5iHSc9bFsJsixc1V947uo1JWwGG1nnd8Rj1UYIa7NpN8x2dvIjDTGjyQAHQM56NfO1yfHpSV720Ba/s1600/solids+top+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I've got the backing fabric all picked out and pieced for a while now (I chose a really sweet grey damask print from Riley Blake), but I've not started with the quilting yet. I think I'm secretly avoiding it, because I really don't know how I should quilt it. Any ideas? It seems to call out for straight line quilting, but you know what my straight line quilting is like most days - and this will need <i>diagonal</i> lines too - so I'm pretty much terrified!<br />
<br />
I've also started another charm pack quilt. I used a pack of Fairy Tale Friends - a line I've been hoarding from a couple of years ago.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnsvjz0qw2HJu5m6aN7m02AeOvthpODM9k_Nx_mkz-VKQFuS6w8Vcs-NItCeJirJm9ym-w6TzE3QxXduzVlN4cBSkfPCwHGY4ZGjrVJVpBh9gkKggwZZ9-qSpwHtqgK1se877xaUQnz-o2/s1600/FTF+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnsvjz0qw2HJu5m6aN7m02AeOvthpODM9k_Nx_mkz-VKQFuS6w8Vcs-NItCeJirJm9ym-w6TzE3QxXduzVlN4cBSkfPCwHGY4ZGjrVJVpBh9gkKggwZZ9-qSpwHtqgK1se877xaUQnz-o2/s1600/FTF+supplies.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a lot of teal for this one - co-ordinating squares with HSTs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1FUtmX2lUay8aiW2GoCTL5esJQKbm-jDWeCf0c1qs3MgUoHY3pG_SykffU49U1Qs0jP0xcEwu6uz6Fq0ZSkMdAogssF50zONVtivKvnRjYum0gFDeULTl7Qb6iBwJhnIIXk-WK85rYSsn/s1600/FTF+squares.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1FUtmX2lUay8aiW2GoCTL5esJQKbm-jDWeCf0c1qs3MgUoHY3pG_SykffU49U1Qs0jP0xcEwu6uz6Fq0ZSkMdAogssF50zONVtivKvnRjYum0gFDeULTl7Qb6iBwJhnIIXk-WK85rYSsn/s1600/FTF+squares.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This is the top finished - but I'm not exactly thrilled about it. Too much dead (white) space<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2QtcEHENrfYG7D7ZEjlw4Af4DHh77doH9efljC7kMgLyDgfjx3eHFO5DPJutmDsaW-N6QI29RmaJiaLn1D0QpB8bOrsF98oFjQdq8C2i07g803HANStF-MPJt42IoA0xQbFFtmlfhTlhS/s1600/FTF+top+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2QtcEHENrfYG7D7ZEjlw4Af4DHh77doH9efljC7kMgLyDgfjx3eHFO5DPJutmDsaW-N6QI29RmaJiaLn1D0QpB8bOrsF98oFjQdq8C2i07g803HANStF-MPJt42IoA0xQbFFtmlfhTlhS/s1600/FTF+top+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
What to do?<br />

<br />
I can tell you, I'm SO excited about this. Are you ready for photos?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSrMivdz65520rSj4O4Vonz2mBHNQjlA6K11Ac7LgfVGDzn8B3cXuWRD_C6xrLXpF134inLmdGja7yXLmNR4wyRnMu5iVDGs_eEIfeopHur4XbZXtfnfZFnv3IBRAGsHI8cGeJeKYXYCTy/s1600/STAW+finish+-+squares.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSrMivdz65520rSj4O4Vonz2mBHNQjlA6K11Ac7LgfVGDzn8B3cXuWRD_C6xrLXpF134inLmdGja7yXLmNR4wyRnMu5iVDGs_eEIfeopHur4XbZXtfnfZFnv3IBRAGsHI8cGeJeKYXYCTy/s1600/STAW+finish+-+squares.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
A grand total of 1296, 2-inch squares.</div>
<br />
I had a hard time trying to photograph all of it without having someone hold it up. And I couldn't take the shots outside, as it's been raining a lot. So the best I could do was drape it over the sofa:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNxwT6wrVok9hpt8OJt74HWewh7RTts7fv9UWyRZJBe0eIyBQBjIOhfde6cH6Ts2dYmyhi62sceT5nSWEOv46ITzbcRm5iQiXLNM0GmkWqPVhHdziMijY940Xm_2MfpBHYXx4wU8Rno8Gu/s1600/STAW+finish+-+drape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNxwT6wrVok9hpt8OJt74HWewh7RTts7fv9UWyRZJBe0eIyBQBjIOhfde6cH6Ts2dYmyhi62sceT5nSWEOv46ITzbcRm5iQiXLNM0GmkWqPVhHdziMijY940Xm_2MfpBHYXx4wU8Rno8Gu/s1600/STAW+finish+-+drape.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I needed a model for some perspective, so I grabbed the nearest thing that was passing by:</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirRwcbFbtdt8MHEvkfGLJAuDhDZaGZKhmDJ2Lz29RhQ3UtDH-rBxqQWpiv_rf0sYreUoqGlPgKNehhjU0RyG_tBmNlgvjZ6PG7mjFRNRya0ZJhvoJ-8UveqTcdZRk-MRy4hmtf_aJWEpbo/s1600/STAW+finish+-+MJ.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirRwcbFbtdt8MHEvkfGLJAuDhDZaGZKhmDJ2Lz29RhQ3UtDH-rBxqQWpiv_rf0sYreUoqGlPgKNehhjU0RyG_tBmNlgvjZ6PG7mjFRNRya0ZJhvoJ-8UveqTcdZRk-MRy4hmtf_aJWEpbo/s1600/STAW+finish+-+MJ.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">"I'm not Milo!"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A closer shot of some of the squares:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo4YXmeJsv9yPA_KjfDaAUsUG4XOoEAg902VvpZPAKmlkJRjVnjkOCYuD_HOipta8xzyT4lV6HuSXnnfCn11DZq5LSbroG5neCFnzALNLBjU6O1oXToALfrzr_JIwNWXkh0e-R5vpy_DVa/s1600/STAW+finish+-+close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo4YXmeJsv9yPA_KjfDaAUsUG4XOoEAg902VvpZPAKmlkJRjVnjkOCYuD_HOipta8xzyT4lV6HuSXnnfCn11DZq5LSbroG5neCFnzALNLBjU6O1oXToALfrzr_JIwNWXkh0e-R5vpy_DVa/s1600/STAW+finish+-+close.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I think I made the right choice for the backing too - a sea of calm to balance the happy chaos of the scraps on the front. You can also just make out the swirly quilting on the back:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht1VBnrJoMaJLzDzJ9Mwn4IGXoKFQWcPYRDYSP_1uydSzkZTWeuvZxUvqkrUxUVBaMGIrlLKKOoloGTyVgphFVCJCRdI8POhCnH177gcvot81Hd_Khxkz4yaxzjPhddikX6PjE7jLAZhrZ/s1600/STAW+finish+-+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht1VBnrJoMaJLzDzJ9Mwn4IGXoKFQWcPYRDYSP_1uydSzkZTWeuvZxUvqkrUxUVBaMGIrlLKKOoloGTyVgphFVCJCRdI8POhCnH177gcvot81Hd_Khxkz4yaxzjPhddikX6PjE7jLAZhrZ/s1600/STAW+finish+-+back.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Making this quilt was truly a labour of love. If you asked me if I would attempt another one, I wouldn't say yes. I would say DEFINITELY yes!<br />
<br />
Happy quilting, and have a great week ahead :-)<br />
<br />

<br />
So armed with determination I hunkered down and got to quilting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6W_-MwyDJp7KKvBxV_L0kUX8ukTNlH8HM8yS4Bzm3tiNGD5NjEqdMi60uLVb4HgPxQeSlbbvmMGtJ3jkLHKPrRNUfL63autsB7PR_lx2jt_15p4vrK8xnhhCEzcbVgRv8Wo35V7WKixrJ/s1600/STAW+quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6W_-MwyDJp7KKvBxV_L0kUX8ukTNlH8HM8yS4Bzm3tiNGD5NjEqdMi60uLVb4HgPxQeSlbbvmMGtJ3jkLHKPrRNUfL63autsB7PR_lx2jt_15p4vrK8xnhhCEzcbVgRv8Wo35V7WKixrJ/s1600/STAW+quilting.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This quilt measures 6 feet square, so there was a LOT of upper arm muscle involved!<br />
<br />
Also a lot of quilting sessions involved. I remember <strike>complaining</strike> marvelling at how long it was taking to quilt this.<br />
<br />
Is was my first time quilting swirls on a real quilt, so I had little swirls, big swirls, uneven swirls, eliptical swirls, 'is-this-supposed-to-be-a-swirl?' swirl...<br />
<br />
And then to my great delight, I came to my last swirl.<br />
<br />
Squaring up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo1haZGaN-CXc2cz378sDVHGyFjCtEFnrIOXvaPPFUbrOfFf-c9PLoYrBfPr0XaUCGAd1EFNHiyf7_ifZFZaTIB_V9ofGPqvSfAsnRFr8mLzcKm1ZGqveFG52AwUlS-DLKcN8Tp5qn6zVp/s1600/STAW+trimming.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo1haZGaN-CXc2cz378sDVHGyFjCtEFnrIOXvaPPFUbrOfFf-c9PLoYrBfPr0XaUCGAd1EFNHiyf7_ifZFZaTIB_V9ofGPqvSfAsnRFr8mLzcKm1ZGqveFG52AwUlS-DLKcN8Tp5qn6zVp/s1600/STAW+trimming.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
For the binding, I went with a solid navy blue, to even out the scrappiness of it all.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKLY_E8w02m80EL_h6AW5i0vVZK4W_oFyrUNsx_jSrzi9ioqaH1d0kk6pZ0bxWGdKf663yTSvPR2qPSf1lA-WhnIYvBLLFcJa10PUFWkByA0cKVOVUc1oug6BmG8e0n5hjyRfkrpsWhUA1/s1600/STAW+binding.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKLY_E8w02m80EL_h6AW5i0vVZK4W_oFyrUNsx_jSrzi9ioqaH1d0kk6pZ0bxWGdKf663yTSvPR2qPSf1lA-WhnIYvBLLFcJa10PUFWkByA0cKVOVUc1oug6BmG8e0n5hjyRfkrpsWhUA1/s1600/STAW+binding.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
By this time I was keen to finish it off quickly, and considered machine binding it, but then a movie came on the telly, so I got comfortable on the sofa with my needle and thread :-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB_VwRBx17b6iq_6U3Mj84a11ddhMi-6KPqpNG47hactE2_Ev-QRDnrr4m3pJEtfJexlyezn7veOqu4Xxs4eDQL3Wo2DBJUJAZ3c6IqEE38LYQqr5cRDMhJZ7P6dCicbsWimjZvd0ehphZ/s1600/STAW+bind.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB_VwRBx17b6iq_6U3Mj84a11ddhMi-6KPqpNG47hactE2_Ev-QRDnrr4m3pJEtfJexlyezn7veOqu4Xxs4eDQL3Wo2DBJUJAZ3c6IqEE38LYQqr5cRDMhJZ7P6dCicbsWimjZvd0ehphZ/s1600/STAW+bind.jpg" /></a></div>
<span id="goog_423223600"></span><span id="goog_423223601"></span><br />
I'm down to the last few feet of stitches, and then I'll have a finish to show - yay! But before I go I just have to share this next photo. It was taken after quilting, when I had lain it down on the floor for inspection. Milo sauntered in to inspect and immediately made himself at home :-)<br />

April kicked off on a high note for me - I think I've been bit by the sewing bug! I've managed to squeeze in time in the sewing room every day, sometimes half and hour, sometimes a couple of hours... so I've a few things to show :-)<br />
<br />
You may remember that some months ago I pulled out some floral prints from my stash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcOilbfVzS1AHVEAfz4opsTU9i9Vvo5Ki8avzPq8pxf2cSbwX9XiXBSGnzkNnhN-jocLNAOESXhoPBMsAMRC0lFBnyULa62hKNZiopzIa1BYAZIY5oLsPat9ERE_k6U1ZW2H9L3X8u9a5w/s1600/floral+quilt+fabric+pull.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcOilbfVzS1AHVEAfz4opsTU9i9Vvo5Ki8avzPq8pxf2cSbwX9XiXBSGnzkNnhN-jocLNAOESXhoPBMsAMRC0lFBnyULa62hKNZiopzIa1BYAZIY5oLsPat9ERE_k6U1ZW2H9L3X8u9a5w/s1600/floral+quilt+fabric+pull.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I was wanting to make an all floral patchwork quilt.<br />
<br />
The squares were cut in bits and pieces - a little here and a little there.<br />
<br />
I finally got around to piecing them all together:-<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzVFjcRd-GuGvYkCmOndSt4z2L6jbqZw_NrUAEEptViywaAIvIrLBuZmC_Br1kVDMvZW9ETFNENx63-QBSUidwitWVeQ0GdNksGkuc0-b4rsToIoFmA4OVABi4DCfHnvPmWBWEdUiVNr4N/s1600/June+finished+top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzVFjcRd-GuGvYkCmOndSt4z2L6jbqZw_NrUAEEptViywaAIvIrLBuZmC_Br1kVDMvZW9ETFNENx63-QBSUidwitWVeQ0GdNksGkuc0-b4rsToIoFmA4OVABi4DCfHnvPmWBWEdUiVNr4N/s1600/June+finished+top.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
130 4" squares in total.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Soon to be basted and quilted :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then I decided that I wanted to make a solids quilt. So out came my collection of solids...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
... not so much choice, but perhaps just enough variety?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a start anyway, hee! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This one is for my Scrappy Trip Around the World from waaaaay back when, which I finally got basted.</div>

Let's see how long this bug sticks around :-)</div>

<br /></div>

I point this out because it hasn't been raining much at all in my part of the world. So you can imagine what a welcome respite it was. *grateful*<br />
<br />
I crept away to my sewing room, listening to the rain lashing against our windows... and pulled out a scrap bin :-)<br />
<br />
So it became Saturday night, with just me and my scraps...<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAVA5rBA8oMCzXql9EyMGtw7EajBMZgp7Hm1UQtx8e7n0VxOr3zjoL5t3D4DfDyDN1fVf2xyKFW26wVqC1N5rlMR4SHsq7k_Rk2NCaaTPjhXGpI_dB4Gl4_FX0u0wHg7k2tF7yZEzfZQKG/s1600/Scrap+vortex+milo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAVA5rBA8oMCzXql9EyMGtw7EajBMZgp7Hm1UQtx8e7n0VxOr3zjoL5t3D4DfDyDN1fVf2xyKFW26wVqC1N5rlMR4SHsq7k_Rk2NCaaTPjhXGpI_dB4Gl4_FX0u0wHg7k2tF7yZEzfZQKG/s1600/Scrap+vortex+milo.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A happy mess!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
... err, with a little furry animal keeping me company (not really, coz he fell asleep).<br />
<br />
There was no plan at all - I just started piecing random scraps together.<br />
<br />
A block ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSShmTLLkzeqZO2IFhpasfIGfa6b_n8YQJTHlfAf68QwDZ5Vm667q-4j_MsxbkaZ1gvwsKIgplI7WC5vd9NUVkXJCqkFb3TNVt2LZPffSq6_4PvEZ8SMPpd_trYkV6RU_q7oe4wfr1rdF/s1600/scrap+vortex+block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSShmTLLkzeqZO2IFhpasfIGfa6b_n8YQJTHlfAf68QwDZ5Vm667q-4j_MsxbkaZ1gvwsKIgplI7WC5vd9NUVkXJCqkFb3TNVt2LZPffSq6_4PvEZ8SMPpd_trYkV6RU_q7oe4wfr1rdF/s1600/scrap+vortex+block.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
A strip ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Je1de3sl1_g5MeLejb4EQIoEp3OuqSSTYGqHya2646zeL_AulX8-FW0qjhbYLaV_hgLpxuspdXjMBZYYbofNcppXRvgRB6MzZ0MJAtVTqUw8DZkAYXQZ63iWzCdu8eLouJ17uqrxCr7P/s1600/scrap+vortex+strip.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Je1de3sl1_g5MeLejb4EQIoEp3OuqSSTYGqHya2646zeL_AulX8-FW0qjhbYLaV_hgLpxuspdXjMBZYYbofNcppXRvgRB6MzZ0MJAtVTqUw8DZkAYXQZ63iWzCdu8eLouJ17uqrxCr7P/s1600/scrap+vortex+strip.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Becoming even bigger blocks!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2eClYoUYFSfxa_ZzWyQ2uqWB8MGpEayTfYgmjIWgZi0tDEJ82pwLVWelEUzXJTRUerFpOAvZDRdQytFhvfGcahl0WXQfISsuMxkM1o97nMTrJ4UxQT678HeJU9yfu8hmlP1-mVDoz9NP2/s1600/scrap+vortex+big+block.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2eClYoUYFSfxa_ZzWyQ2uqWB8MGpEayTfYgmjIWgZi0tDEJ82pwLVWelEUzXJTRUerFpOAvZDRdQytFhvfGcahl0WXQfISsuMxkM1o97nMTrJ4UxQT678HeJU9yfu8hmlP1-mVDoz9NP2/s1600/scrap+vortex+big+block.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This might just become my next scrap project :-)<br />
<br />
Have a great week ahead all!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSSG-zR8yCCKiprXxetgJjONAjtA_B_YScfsraMwu4JbjOkC1rDBFiNt4t6_pcpl0f5G2d-pUtwszJB9CRbFPW4IXt7pwxZrZZT45OttMkJRpktKemue2uKXTSGZ7Uwrc3SBFKVUw_mvs0/s1600/quilting+love.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSSG-zR8yCCKiprXxetgJjONAjtA_B_YScfsraMwu4JbjOkC1rDBFiNt4t6_pcpl0f5G2d-pUtwszJB9CRbFPW4IXt7pwxZrZZT45OttMkJRpktKemue2uKXTSGZ7Uwrc3SBFKVUw_mvs0/s1600/quilting+love.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
See what I mean?<br />
<br />
I had just the one fussy cut square of the word 'love', and I hid it in the middle of this patchwork quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0Kn57l2LGFSLLpQLGpoHcU65ciYULa3hJA9eZAkCloS0bXlJ2suVbhFaovrkSV896mZWMyafXEo0zFFqBzRVKm8ETu9JTGiqNEca0F7vwJhRAqsatwjE0RolgtcIQ0SjTSBeuP0cH1BCC/s1600/alia+love.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0Kn57l2LGFSLLpQLGpoHcU65ciYULa3hJA9eZAkCloS0bXlJ2suVbhFaovrkSV896mZWMyafXEo0zFFqBzRVKm8ETu9JTGiqNEca0F7vwJhRAqsatwjE0RolgtcIQ0SjTSBeuP0cH1BCC/s1600/alia+love.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This one was made especially for a little girl born on 5 March, and I finished it just in time too! (And I just have to say what a cutie Baby Alia is!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPutkBoLf9NF_UOo0y4RKAuxzPuR9-8-m6-ZF5QWpd8UjNO3bXVKExbM77XQM769aMX26E72R30Hi3IjyziyABM5JeN6xzN7gZafKQmfWUmx_DmEZh0N_vFcA6sFNU3JPgn4JCJso-I8mB/s1600/alia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPutkBoLf9NF_UOo0y4RKAuxzPuR9-8-m6-ZF5QWpd8UjNO3bXVKExbM77XQM769aMX26E72R30Hi3IjyziyABM5JeN6xzN7gZafKQmfWUmx_DmEZh0N_vFcA6sFNU3JPgn4JCJso-I8mB/s1600/alia.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
My inspiration came from this Stargazer print from Patty Young's Lush fabric line - pink and teal... mmmmmmm... I had a yard of it hiding in my shelves. Did I say it's mmmmmmmmm?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_CJ3WZ04JpiLrW0dkgramL5MqfgUYk_fAlptFUqx1A5wTxhtK6lZPcUwR8BUKzWIAWPTZ_dl6lIATYjgY1zAxjvZoqn05R6ZIT5oZmg3h5A8CLzATlTKnG23bZbrt0Ulo7UAu9FeUL9KZ/s1600/stargazer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_CJ3WZ04JpiLrW0dkgramL5MqfgUYk_fAlptFUqx1A5wTxhtK6lZPcUwR8BUKzWIAWPTZ_dl6lIATYjgY1zAxjvZoqn05R6ZIT5oZmg3h5A8CLzATlTKnG23bZbrt0Ulo7UAu9FeUL9KZ/s1600/stargazer.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I was told that the new mummy really likes this little quilt. *happy*<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
It's Friday tomorrow, hip hip hurray! Have a great one all.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Zarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11664945876896343364noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8390264350363222554.post-72986420452799593802014-03-23T15:38:00.000+08:002014-03-23T16:21:20.831+08:00Previous FinishesI've started a couple of new projects, and was about to share my progress here when I realised that I haven't posted some earlier finishes. So I thought I had better be a bit more organised and list them here first.<br />
<br />
First up is a string table runner.<br />
<br />
I didn't think much of it while I was making it - my focus then was just to use up some of the longer strips in my scrap bin. But I changed my mind pronto as soon as it was finished.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Lycg9MlSlgOmYoErdxO0rOrfAozAELP9pV0YcWdvsHTV5cAinawnA9N5qePkbJL1aDLKcmkig7iuakXv6h6Oh8KVpTNHuapAI-IsLahT1b5TvkGbIHbUWNLwqwd2-2MThHztPgcb8lLm/s1600/runner+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9Lycg9MlSlgOmYoErdxO0rOrfAozAELP9pV0YcWdvsHTV5cAinawnA9N5qePkbJL1aDLKcmkig7iuakXv6h6Oh8KVpTNHuapAI-IsLahT1b5TvkGbIHbUWNLwqwd2-2MThHztPgcb8lLm/s1600/runner+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqO0-H4G37M3NppZrR_J-pCbuBqfjZ3QRpbIJd4_0R2U8L_WC9Hjd-C4BorZCHU8fGMzjJU5Els5LmPoXN8K4xotZN9xC27rOKYeva0pYZRhL7h_kFQdEzYsf-CQuydmhJyZEu8vpdse4o/s1600/runner+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqO0-H4G37M3NppZrR_J-pCbuBqfjZ3QRpbIJd4_0R2U8L_WC9Hjd-C4BorZCHU8fGMzjJU5Els5LmPoXN8K4xotZN9xC27rOKYeva0pYZRhL7h_kFQdEzYsf-CQuydmhJyZEu8vpdse4o/s1600/runner+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I really like it. Hip hip hooray for scrappy projects :-)<br />
<br />
Then there's the blue coin quilt:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG6ynHI7yKPguYkkGQXemArP8x3j8eXpBBK4c-AFZj6mJrFR8iLkynJhd87K6OWusVitYS6273_wCpylYqS52lA7yniovf9iJ25izo9uLfoSL3F8cnzOWlE0sz_0_T8D7yfBALQEcm8M9g/s1600/blue+coin+quilt+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG6ynHI7yKPguYkkGQXemArP8x3j8eXpBBK4c-AFZj6mJrFR8iLkynJhd87K6OWusVitYS6273_wCpylYqS52lA7yniovf9iJ25izo9uLfoSL3F8cnzOWlE0sz_0_T8D7yfBALQEcm8M9g/s1600/blue+coin+quilt+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Baby sized, and is the blue version of a similar <a href="http://afabriccase.blogspot.com/2013/11/first-it-was-lazy.html" target="_blank">pink coin quilt</a> I made a few months earlier.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLAWpSuUGL4EaI0PB8jeqqvDW_NDaQ5tooVfBMHtZgIpB5hlQXustMaX9IvK9wD1hB6R9I_W8QHt-EIxmSp-jFSBM_KPdkpHJd3QVqyr2rdoAyT60wBnlhjRGdNACwEyxzBgr94j5eIvs3/s1600/blue+coin+quilt+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLAWpSuUGL4EaI0PB8jeqqvDW_NDaQ5tooVfBMHtZgIpB5hlQXustMaX9IvK9wD1hB6R9I_W8QHt-EIxmSp-jFSBM_KPdkpHJd3QVqyr2rdoAyT60wBnlhjRGdNACwEyxzBgr94j5eIvs3/s1600/blue+coin+quilt+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I think I've said this before, but I'll say it again - coin quilts are the easiest! I highly recommend them if you're a beginner quilter or if you just need a quick finish.<br />

I'm hoping this little quilt will find a new home soon.<br />

Enjoy Sunday all, and have a great week ahead!<br />

At time of posting, the aircraft and all on board have yet to be located.<br />

<div>
Lost planes are, sadly, a given event, but when it hits this close to home it forces on an entirely different perspective.</div>
<div>

<div>
There are no words to describe the shock and anxiety that we are experiencing, and I cannot even begin to imagine the emotions of those with loved ones on board.</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1394117798050_3491" style="font-family: sans-serif;">So what did I do during my convalesence? </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1394117798050_4198" style="font-family: sans-serif;">Well, I was sitting on the sofa for most of the time - it was really all I could do. I couldn't catch up on any sleep because even laying down was tricky. Using the sewing machine was out of the question, as was walking around the sewing room pulling and slicing fabric. And don't even think of quilting or basting! So there I was on the sofa, getting more and more bored and more and more depressed, when inspiration came in the form of you tube. You see, I Iearned how to crochet via you tube! Isn't technology amazing?</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1394117798050_4197" style="font-family: sans-serif;">So somehow I managed to procure a couple of balls of yarn (one a cinderella blue and one lime green) and a crochet hook, and I chose a granny square tutorial. Eventually I got the hang of chains and double crochets and my granny square just grew and grew. Before I knew it, it was big enough to cover Milo, haha! He liked to nap next to me on the sofa, so every once in a while I would drape my square over him to guage my progress. Now I wish I had taken a photo ...</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1394117798050_4196" style="font-family: sans-serif;">But anyway, I soon used up the 2 balls of yarn and sent Yummy Hubby out for more. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span>
<span id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1394117798050_4207" style="font-family: sans-serif;">(I also told him to get a tapestry needle, but he came back with another crochet hook)</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: sans-serif;">And so my granny square grew ....</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif;"> </span><br />

<br />
<span id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1394117798050_4208" style="font-family: sans-serif;">I've left it alone for a while now, but I'm not done with it yet! <br />
<span id="yui_3_13_0_ym1_1_1394117798050_4209" style="font-family: sans-serif;">Yummy Hubby is impressed with the square (which is really a little blanket by now - measures about 3 feet square). He says it should be given a name, like 'Slipped Disc' to remind me of the time when I made it. Of course I told him that 'Slipped Disc' was a lousy name for a blanket. So then he suggested 'Misery'. Morbid, I know, but you know what? I like it :-)</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif;"> </span><br />

You see, I had been having backaches and a horrible pain down my leg for a long time. In the past year the pain (which I've since learnt is sciatica) had been getting progressively worse. I finally went to get it checked in early January. An MRI showed a herniated lumbar disc, aka a slipped disc. In doctor speak it's S1, L4-L5. </span></span></span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I have no idea how I got it, I have no recollection of any particular incident (or accident!) that may have caused it, but that's not really surprising as the medics say the herniation looks many years old. I must have left treatment to the very last, because as soon as I was diagnosed the pain came fast and furious. I was reduced to a wheelchair. Painkillers did little. Physiotherapy did nothing. The level of agony was such that I was prescribed immediate surgery (twice!). But it turns out that I'm a real chicken when it comes to these things because I found myself wheeling myself as far away from the OT as fast I could. </span></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">By luck, a friend suggested something called acupotomy, which is a scary version of acupuncture. At the time the thought of being stabbed by a hundred needles seemed infinitely more attractive than having my back sliced open and my insides fiddled with, and anyway I was pretty desperate by this point, so I willingly submitted myself to a string of intensive acupotomy sessions. I had never hear of acupotomy before, and it's really something to be experienced to be believed, so I'm not even going to bother trying to describe it here. </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Thankfully, it seems to have worked, and I've since graduated to one (painless) acupuncture session per week. </span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Happily I'm now up and about, although I still have residue sciatic pain in my leg and haven't quite resumed my previous levels of activity. But I have to say that I'm so, SO grateful to have recuperated this far. There were days when I couldn't walk more than a few steps and inevitably some low moments followed where I wondered if life would ever be the same again. I'm sorry if all this sounds a bit dramatic, but pain does things to your mind, do you know? </span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Anyway to cut a long story short, I've now re-entered the sewing room, and am slowly, carefully, trying to pick up where I left off.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> </span></div>

I hope this year brings much love and joy, and especially of the fabric kind :-)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2014 has been pretty busy for me so far - at work it seems that we're hitting the ground running, which I suppose isn't such a bad thing, so won't complain too much. Although this blog has been a little quiet, I've actually been doing a fair bit of sewing, and you know that's always a good thing, eheheh.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First up, I pieced enough string blocks from <a href="http://afabriccase.blogspot.com/2013/11/a-little-bit-of-this-and-that.html" target="_blank">this post</a> for a cute little runner... </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKRCcAlDv-Z3qN-1jj-ArmHn9sNwyKnM5W_-Sq2x_HQC86KI4rSI_DAZlVBiaDo0xgOq-BtkCH5YXpFAryRDO-TnGZNd9fPCtH8eBDekLlDXCDk4JlTGGA3-j2NrP3jfLVFwcjtsmahQCq/s1600/string+quilt+runner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKRCcAlDv-Z3qN-1jj-ArmHn9sNwyKnM5W_-Sq2x_HQC86KI4rSI_DAZlVBiaDo0xgOq-BtkCH5YXpFAryRDO-TnGZNd9fPCtH8eBDekLlDXCDk4JlTGGA3-j2NrP3jfLVFwcjtsmahQCq/s1600/string+quilt+runner.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
and I've actually got that quilted too. I haven't taken a photo yet, so that will have to wait for the next post. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And then I found an old project - little hexagons! - already pieced together and forgotten. The hexagons are pretty small, with each edge measuring less than an inch. I must have started it yeeaars ago and forgot about it :-( Anyway, the entire piece was about 16 inch square - so I trimmed it up, added a border and a piping edge ....</div>
<div>

<div>
After that I made a little coin quilt top, rather like the pink one I made earlier, only this is the boy version:</div>

Coin quilts are the easiest to make, so if you've not attempted one, you should! I had planned to use a flannel backing, as I had purchased some flannel online by mistake(!). There seemed to be just enough to back this quilt, but thank goodness I washed it first because it shrunk big time! Change of plan now required.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Aaaaaand... I've started a couple of other projects too - a result of playing with my fabric. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A simple patchwork square quilt, but using only the floral fabrics from my stash...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
.... I'm having mixed feelings about this fabric pull, but we'll see.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And another quilt I'm going to make using a charm pack and some coordinating fabric. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<div>
I really hope work will be manageable next week, because I'm in the mood to finish these! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy Sunday everyone :-)</div>

<br />
Remember how I said to finish my Scrappy Trip Around the World was a target for this year? Well, I haven't quite done that yet, but what I do have is a finished quilt top! And that will just have to do :-)<br />
<br />

<br />
Lots and LOTS of little 2 inch squares.<br />

<br />
All in all, it's been a great sewing and quilting year, and I feel very blessed and grateful for all the fabric fun that I've had in the past twelve months.<br />
<br />
I'm feeling a little sentimental now that another year has come and gone, BUT I'm also looking forward VERY much to the new year :-) What about you?<br />
<br />
Hope everyone has a great, happy and safe one!<br />
<br />
